Submission Guidelines

Journal of Education and Development Lab (JEDL)

The Journal of Education and Development Lab (JEDL) welcomes original scholarly manuscripts that fall within the journal's aims and scope. Manuscripts are submitted through the JEDL online submission system and are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, peer review.

Authors should read the Author Guidelines and relevant JEDL policies before beginning a submission.

1. Submission Principles

By submitting a manuscript to JEDL, the authors confirm that:

  • the manuscript is original;

  • the manuscript has not been published previously, in whole or in substantial part;

  • the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal;

  • all listed authors have approved the manuscript and its submission;

  • all individuals listed as authors meet appropriate authorship criteria;

  • the manuscript complies with applicable research-ethics requirements;

  • sources have been appropriately cited and acknowledged;

  • copyrighted material has been used with appropriate permission where required;

  • conflicts of interest have been disclosed;

  • funding has been disclosed where applicable;

  • relevant use of artificial intelligence or generative AI has been disclosed;

  • the manuscript complies with JEDL's publication policies; and

  • the information provided during submission is accurate and complete.

2. Online Submission

All manuscripts should normally be submitted through the JEDL online submission system.

Authors should not submit the same manuscript simultaneously by email and through the online system unless specifically requested by the Editorial Team.

The online submission process allows authors to:

  1. register or log in;

  2. start a new submission;

  3. select the appropriate article section;

  4. complete submission requirements;

  5. enter author and manuscript metadata;

  6. upload manuscript files;

  7. provide required declarations;

  8. review the submission;

  9. confirm the submission; and

  10. monitor the editorial status of the manuscript.

3. Registration

Authors who do not already have a JEDL account should register through the journal website.

Authors should provide accurate information during registration, including:

  • full name;

  • institutional affiliation;

  • country;

  • email address; and

  • ORCID iD, where available.

Authors should avoid creating multiple accounts unnecessarily.

The corresponding author should use an email address that remains accessible throughout the editorial and publication process.

4. Starting a New Submission

After logging in, the corresponding author should select the appropriate option to begin a new submission.

During the submission process, authors will be asked to confirm their agreement with the journal's submission requirements.

Authors should read each requirement carefully before proceeding.

5. Selecting the Appropriate Section

Authors must select the manuscript type or journal section that most closely corresponds to their submission.

Possible JEDL submission categories may include:

  • Original Research Article

  • Review Article

  • Systematic Review

  • Short Communication

  • Case Study

  • Conceptual/Theoretical Article

  • Book Review

  • Editorial

  • Commentary

  • Conference Paper/Proceedings, where applicable

The Editorial Team may change the section designation if another category is more appropriate.

6. Submission Requirements

Before completing a submission, authors should confirm that:

  • the manuscript is prepared according to JEDL's Author Guidelines;

  • the manuscript file is complete;

  • the title is accurate;

  • the abstract is included where required;

  • keywords are provided;

  • references are complete;

  • tables and figures are properly identified;

  • ethical information is included where applicable;

  • funding information is included where applicable;

  • conflict of interest information is provided;

  • data availability information is provided where applicable;

  • AI-use disclosure is provided where applicable; and

  • all required supplementary files have been uploaded.

7. Manuscript File

The primary manuscript should normally be submitted as an editable document, preferably Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), unless another format is specified by the Editorial Team.

The manuscript should be clearly formatted and should contain all essential components required for evaluation.

Authors should ensure that the uploaded file is the final version intended for editorial assessment.

8. Anonymous Review Version

Where the manuscript is being considered under an anonymous or double-anonymous peer-review process, authors should prepare the manuscript in a manner that does not unnecessarily reveal their identities.

Where applicable, authors should remove:

  • author names;

  • institutional affiliations;

  • identifying acknowledgments;

  • identifying statements within the manuscript; and

  • other information that could unnecessarily reveal author identity.

A separate title page containing author information may be uploaded when required by the journal's submission system.

Authors should follow the specific instructions provided by JEDL for the applicable peer-review workflow.

9. Title Page

Where a separate title page is required, it should contain:

  • full manuscript title;

  • names of all authors;

  • institutional affiliations;

  • department or academic unit, where applicable;

  • city and country;

  • corresponding author's email address;

  • ORCID iD, where available;

  • funding information, where applicable;

  • conflict of interest declaration; and

  • other required author information.

10. Author Metadata

Authors must enter complete and accurate metadata into the OJS submission system.

This may include:

  • title;

  • abstract;

  • keywords;

  • author names;

  • affiliations;

  • ORCID iDs;

  • contributor roles, where applicable;

  • references;

  • funding information;

  • supporting agencies; and

  • other bibliographic information requested by the system.

The metadata entered into OJS may be used for:

  • article publication;

  • DOI registration;

  • indexing;

  • abstracting services;

  • search-engine discovery;

  • OAI-PMH harvesting; and

  • other scholarly communication services.

Authors should therefore carefully check all metadata before completing the submission.

11. Author Order

The author order entered into the submission system should correspond to the agreed author order in the manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • all eligible authors are included;

  • author names are correctly spelled;

  • affiliations are accurate;

  • author order has been approved by all authors; and

  • ORCID information is correctly entered where available.

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be appropriately justified and may require confirmation from all affected authors.

12. ORCID

Authors are encouraged to provide an ORCID iD.

ORCID helps distinguish researchers with similar names and supports accurate attribution of scholarly work.

Authors should provide their own ORCID iD and should not enter another person's identifier.

13. Abstract and Keywords

Authors should enter the abstract and keywords into the appropriate OJS metadata fields.

The abstract entered into OJS should match the final manuscript unless the Editorial Team requests otherwise.

Authors should provide approximately 4–8 relevant keywords.

Keywords should accurately represent the subject, methodology, population, context, or major concepts of the manuscript.

14. References

Authors should ensure that the reference list is complete and accurately entered where OJS requests reference metadata.

References should follow the journal's recommended APA 7th edition style unless another style has been specifically approved.

Authors should verify:

  • spelling of author names;

  • publication years;

  • article and book titles;

  • journal titles;

  • volume and issue information;

  • page ranges;

  • DOI information; and

  • URLs where applicable.

15. Supplementary Files

Authors may upload supplementary materials when they are relevant to the manuscript.

Examples include:

  • datasets;

  • questionnaires;

  • research instruments;

  • appendices;

  • interview protocols;

  • supplementary tables;

  • supplementary figures;

  • analytical materials;

  • code or computational materials;

  • ethical approval documentation, where appropriate; and

  • other supporting files.

Supplementary files should be clearly named and described.

Authors must ensure that supplementary materials do not contain confidential or personally identifiable information that should not be publicly disclosed.

16. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be uploaded in accordance with the journal's requirements.

Authors should ensure that:

  • every table and figure is cited in the manuscript;

  • numbering is consistent;

  • titles and captions are clear;

  • images are sufficiently legible;

  • source information is provided where necessary; and

  • copyright permissions have been obtained where required.

Authors should not upload unnecessary duplicate versions of the same figure or table.

17. Research Ethics

Where research involves human participants, animals, personal information, sensitive data, or other ethical considerations, authors must provide appropriate information regarding ethical approval and consent.

Depending on the nature of the research, authors may be required to provide:

  • ethics committee or institutional review approval;

  • informed-consent information;

  • participant confidentiality procedures;

  • data-protection procedures; or

  • an explanation of why formal ethical approval was not required.

JEDL may request supporting documentation when appropriate.

18. Declarations

Authors should provide all declarations required by JEDL.

These may include:

Funding

A statement identifying financial or institutional support.

Where applicable:

Funding: This research received no external funding.

Conflict of Interest

Where no conflict exists:

Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.

Data Availability

A statement explaining whether research data are available and under what conditions.

AI and Generative AI

A disclosure describing material use of AI or generative AI tools where required under JEDL's AI policy.

19. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening

JEDL may screen submitted manuscripts for plagiarism, inappropriate text reuse, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct.

Authors should carefully review their manuscripts before submission.

Similarity reports are considered as part of an overall editorial assessment. A similarity percentage alone does not determine whether plagiarism has occurred.

The Editorial Team may request clarification or take appropriate action where significant concerns arise.

20. Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI

Authors must comply with JEDL's AI & Generative AI Policy.

AI tools must not be credited as authors.

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of the manuscript.

Where applicable, authors should disclose material use of generative AI during manuscript preparation.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate data, manipulate research findings, create false citations, or misrepresent scholarly work.

Authors should not upload confidential, private, proprietary, or unpublished research information into external AI systems without appropriate authorization.

21. Copyright and Permissions

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted material complies with copyright law and applicable licensing requirements.

Permission should be obtained where necessary for:

  • copyrighted figures;

  • photographs;

  • tables;

  • substantial quotations;

  • reproduced instruments; and

  • other copyrighted materials.

Evidence of permission may be requested by the Editorial Team.

22. Submission Fee and Publication Fee

JEDL does not charge authors a submission fee or Article Processing Charge (APC).

There is currently:

  • No submission fee

  • No APC

  • No acceptance fee

  • No mandatory publication fee

JEDL is maintained through voluntary academic and editorial contributions.

Authors should not make payments to individuals claiming to represent JEDL without verification through the journal's official communication channels.

23. Completing the Submission

Before clicking the final submission/confirmation option, authors should carefully review:

  • manuscript files;

  • author names;

  • author order;

  • affiliations;

  • corresponding-author information;

  • abstract;

  • keywords;

  • references;

  • declarations;

  • supplementary files; and

  • all required metadata.

Once submitted, the manuscript enters the journal's editorial workflow.

24. Submission Confirmation

After successful submission, the corresponding author should receive confirmation through the OJS system and/or registered email address, depending on the journal's configuration.

Authors should retain the submission information for future correspondence.

If confirmation is not received within a reasonable period, the corresponding author may contact the JEDL Editorial Team.

25. Editorial Screening

Following submission, the manuscript may undergo an initial editorial screening.

The Editorial Team may assess:

  • relevance to JEDL's aims and scope;

  • originality;

  • basic academic quality;

  • methodological appropriateness;

  • ethical compliance;

  • manuscript completeness;

  • formatting and presentation;

  • plagiarism or similarity concerns; and

  • compliance with JEDL policies.

A manuscript may be returned to the author for correction before peer review.

26. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment may be sent for peer review.

The review process may involve one or more qualified reviewers selected according to the subject and methodology of the manuscript.

Reviewers may evaluate:

  • originality;

  • academic significance;

  • theoretical foundation;

  • methodological quality;

  • analysis;

  • interpretation;

  • clarity;

  • references;

  • ethical considerations; and

  • overall contribution to the field.

The final editorial decision is made by the appropriate JEDL editor.

27. Possible Editorial Decisions

Following editorial and peer review, the manuscript may receive a decision such as:

  • Accept

  • Minor Revision

  • Major Revision

  • Revise and Resubmit

  • Reject

A request for revision does not guarantee eventual acceptance.

Authors should respond carefully and professionally to reviewer and editor comments.

28. Revised Manuscripts

When submitting a revision, authors should provide:

  1. the revised manuscript;

  2. a response to reviewer/editor comments, where requested; and

  3. any additional files requested by the Editorial Team.

Authors should clearly identify substantial changes made in response to the review.

The revised manuscript may be returned to reviewers when necessary.

29. Withdrawal

Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript should contact the JEDL Editorial Team and provide the reason for withdrawal.

If a manuscript has multiple authors, withdrawal should normally be undertaken with the knowledge and agreement of all authors.

Authors should not submit the manuscript to another journal while it remains under active consideration by JEDL.

30. Post-Acceptance

After acceptance, the manuscript may undergo:

  • copyediting;

  • language and formatting checks;

  • metadata verification;

  • reference checking;

  • typesetting;

  • proof preparation;

  • author proof review;

  • final editorial checks; and

  • publication.

Authors may be contacted during this stage if clarification or correction is required.

31. Proofreading

The corresponding author may receive a proof of the article before publication.

Authors should carefully check the proof for:

  • typographical errors;

  • author names;

  • affiliations;

  • figures and tables;

  • references;

  • mathematical or technical notation;

  • DOI and other bibliographic information; and

  • other publication details.

Proof corrections should normally be limited to errors and necessary corrections rather than substantial rewriting.

32. Publication

After final approval, the article may be published online through the JEDL website.

Published articles may receive appropriate bibliographic and persistent-identification metadata, including DOI and/or other identifiers supported by the journal.

The published version becomes part of the scholarly record.

33. Post-Publication Corrections

Authors should promptly notify the Editorial Team if they identify a significant error in a published article.

Depending on the nature and significance of the issue, JEDL may publish:

  • a correction;

  • an editorial notice;

  • an expression of concern; or

  • a retraction.

Such actions will be handled according to JEDL's applicable publication-ethics policies.

34. Conference Proceedings and Special Issues

JEDL may publish selected special issues and conference proceedings subject to editorial approval and appropriate peer-review and publication standards.

Conference organizers, guest editors, and contributing authors must comply with JEDL's:

  • Special Issue Policy;

  • Publication Ethics & Malpractice Policy;

  • Plagiarism & Research Misconduct Policy;

  • Authorship & Contributorship Policy;

  • Copyright & Licensing Policy; and

  • AI & Generative AI Policy.

Acceptance of a conference paper by a conference does not automatically guarantee publication in JEDL.

Conference proceedings or special-issue manuscripts remain subject to the journal's applicable editorial and quality-control requirements.

35. Technical Problems During Submission

If an author experiences a technical problem while submitting through OJS, the author should:

  1. verify that all required fields are completed;

  2. verify that required files have been uploaded;

  3. check the file format and file size;

  4. try again using a current web browser;

  5. save the submission and return later where the OJS workflow permits; and

  6. contact the JEDL Editorial Team if the problem persists.

When contacting the Editorial Team about a technical problem, authors should provide sufficient information to identify the submission and describe the problem clearly.

36. Final Submission Checklist
